Cherry Smoothie

1/4 Whole Pineapple (8 oz)                          113
1 cup Cherries (6 oz)                                     107
1/2 Head of Romaine Lettuce (6 oz)            29
3 Bananas (12 oz)                                         303

Total: (32 oz)                                                  552 calories

Add Pineapple and Cherries to the blender. Putting these in first will help get things mixed up better.

Add 6 oz Lettuce - tear the whole handful of lettuce once or twice and push down into blender.

Add 3 Bananas (12 oz) - break them in half to fit into the blender.

At this point your blender should be really full. When putting on the lid make sure no lettuce gets trapped under the lid or it wont get blended and you'll have to stop the blender to let down.

Blend - Start blending slowly, always make sure your blender is turned down or off before starting. As your blending you may need to help the blender to get things moving. If necessary stop the blender and use a spatula or wooden spoon to push things down to the blade. With the Vitamix you can use the mixing handle while it running just remember to be careful.

This recipe makes 32 oz which fits perfectly in a 32 oz Mason Jar. Use a rubber spatula to get all the smoothie out of the blender making sure the jar is filled to the top to minimize air in the jar. This will help it last longer in the fridge (up to 3 weeks that I tested).

To Store:

If you are storing your smoothies, make sure you fill the jar to the top to minimize the amount of air in the jar. You will notice after they sit for a while that all the air that was whipped into them by the blender will work its way to the top. They will also become more 'watery' after a longer period because of this same reason. Always shake your smoothie before drinking.

I have had smoothies 3 weeks after they were made and they still tasted as good as day 1.

  1. What an excellent sounding recipe. I can’t wait to try it. I’m a cherry fanatic. This really sounds nutritious. I’m a diabetic. Any idea what the total carbs are in this smoothie?

    1. This smoothie is awesome! It’s one of my favorites!

The carbs in all the smoothies are around 80% of the total calories.

Always consult your physician before starting any dietary program. And I would make sure they know about nutrition, you’d be surprised how many of them don’t!

  2. Hi Tai Chi, i got to say i am liking your site, soo many good recipes but this sounds especially delicious, i am looking forward to giving it a try and seeing how it comes out, i will let you know how good the cherry smoothie is 🙂

  3. Wow, that sounds yummy! I love smoothies! I’ll be remembering your site, because these smoothies look very easy and simple to make, and they taste very good probably.

  4. I love cherries, and guess what, cherry season is in full swing here. I have some very nice recipes but they don’t fit the smoothie or health conscious profile! But we, friends and neighbours love them. I restrict each super yummy and very gooey ones to one per cherry season!

I used to drink a lot of smoothies but haven’t tried cherry yet. So it’s out with the blender and cheers to you.
